Healthy Hair Care Tips for Natural Boss Babes

Natural hair requires a lot of TLC! It can become dry, brittle, and just plain frustrating to deal with (shout out to all the patient curly haired girls). However—there’s good news. Natural hair doesn’t have to be a teeth pulling topic if you have the proper tools and resources to make sure your curly tresses are always intact and hydrated!

Here are seven healthy hair care tips for natural boss babes on the journey of not only retaining growth, but making sure their mane is healthy and happy!

7 Natural Hair Care Tips

  1. Find out what works for your hair type, and stick to that!

You don’t need to be the natural boss babe that uses over 20+ products in your curly hair routine. Although it may be tempting to pile up on all of those natural hair products, you’re only harming your hair and wasting your money on products you don’t actually need or may not ever use. Instead, find one or two products that work best for your hair type, and stick to that!

  1. Stay up-to-date on your hair trims

As a natural hair queen, trims are an absolute must! Expecting to retain healthy hair growth if you aren’t removing that dead hair is an absolute no! You should be getting regular trims (about 3-4 times a year) to ensure that you hair is growing and avoiding split and frayed ends. You may be in a state of wanting to hold on to your dead hair for the length—but sis, let that hair go and watch healthier hair flourish!

  1. Keep your curls hydrated

Hair masks and lots of water! These two things will lock in the moisture your hair needs to stay hydrated and healthy. If you begin to notice your hair looks brittle and thin, it may be due to your lack of water. Keep in mind that majority of our body is made up of water, so it’s important that you’re giving your body the necessities it needs in order to help your hair maintain a shiny and bouncy curl. Hair masks and treatments are also contributing factors to ensuring your hair stays hydrated.

  1. Consistently condition

One of the best things you can do for your natural hair is conditioning. Whether that’s condition during your normal co-washes or going even further and doing a deep-condition treatment—curls love conditioner! A leave-in conditioner is also a great product to use to keep your curls healthy and hydrated on a daily basis.

  1. Take your vitamins

There are several daily hair supplements that you can take to help contribute to healthier curls. Many of these supplements tend to work along with your diet as well, filling in nutrients you may have been lacking which in turn will promote healthier hair growth.

  1. Limit your heat use

We know how tempting it can be to straighten your curls when they aren’t acting right, but using too much heat on your natural curls can truly be a bad thing. Heat often leads to damaged curls and once your curls are damaged, it’s extremely difficult for your hair to revert back to its natural curl pattern.

We’re not saying you have to completely do away with heat, but we do believe you should limit your use of it. If you decide to use a heat styling tool, make sure you use a heat protectant! This will serve as a product that prevents heat damage to your natural tresses.

  1. Protect your hair at night

Wrapping your hair up nightly with a satin or silk scarf/bonnet is so important. It eliminates breakage and retains the moisture within your hair. If you would prefer to leave your hair free at night, you can also use a satin pillowcase, just make sure whatever you’re laying your head down on at night—it’s suitable in protecting your curly tresses!
