Here’s the Secret to Successfully Working Remotely

Working remotely is quickly becoming one of the fastest-growing trends in the workforce. Several employers have given their employees the option of working from home, which results in things like greater flexibility, a better work/life balance and increased productivity to name a few.

Working from home can come with a few perks and disadvantages, but it still beats having to endure those long commutes each morning. Working remotely can allow for distractions and lack of productivity, but it’s important to keep in mind that if your foundation lacks structure and discipline—working remotely may not be right for you.

Below are six secrets to working remotely that can help you transform your remote working experience into a productive and balanced environment where you can truly get the job done!

6 Secrets to Successfully Working Remotely

  1. Get Started Early

Getting started on your work early in the morning can save you a lot of procrastination and cramming towards the end of the day. When you allow yourself to begin each day early, you tend to get more done. If you allow your mind to begin your daily duties the moment you wake up, not only are you producing brain productivity, but you’re constantly making progress throughout the day, which allows you to stay motivated!

  1. Structure Your Day as if You Were in the Office

When working remotely, you are your own personal micromanager. This means you are responsible for making sure you stay on schedule and knockout all of your tasks. Segmenting your day with tools such as online Google Calendar and creating personal events and reminders will allow you to feel as if you’re in office—without all the strings attached.

  1. Establish a Dedicated Work Space

Just because you’re working from home doesn’t mean you shouldn’t have a designated work space in which you are able to successfully get your work done. Instead of lying in bed or sitting on the couch in front of the TV, dedicate a space in your home where you solely do your work. This will allow you to eliminate distractions and stay focused on the task at hand.

  1. Work When You’re Most Productive

Productivity plays a large role in working remotely. Because you’re working from home, it’s important to know when you are the most productive. To capitalize on the time in which you’re most productive, save the tasks that require a little more brain power for this time. Projects that tend to be heavier and require more of your time should be accomplished during your most productive hours of the day.

  1. Give Yourself Breaks

No matter how old you get—we all need breaks! Working remotely can cause you to sometimes get so distracted with work that you don’t even realize a break is much needed. Your brain can only function for so long before it decides that it no longer wants to be productive, so make sure you’re giving yourself the time you need to recoup and recharge.

  1. Set a Daily Definitive Finishing Time

Just like taking breaks, you have to know when your work is done for the day and picking back up the next day. If you don’t define a finishing time each day, you may run the risk of experiencing burn out. Sometimes when you’re working remotely, you tend to lose track of time and you’ll look up and shout, “where did the time go?!” This is why it’s important to set a daily definitive finishing time to allow your brain to relax and prepare for the next work day.
