Capital One Honors National Black Business Month

Running a business requires incredible grit and courage, especially in challenging times. In honor of National Black Business Month, Capital One is highlighting Black business owners who exemplify the entrepreneurial spirit and know firsthand what it means to step up and be a boss woman.

Let’s take a look at the stories of two real small business owners, Maya-Camille Broussard and Brit Rettig, to learn more about what perseverance and dedication looks like.

Maya-Camille Broussand, founder of Justice of the Pies

Maya-Camille Broussard is the owner and founder of Justice of the Pies, a Chicago-based bakery that specializes in sweet and savory pies, quiches and tarts. In memory of her late father, Stephen J. Broussard, Justice of the Pies was created to celebrate Stephen’s love of pies and honor his lifelong belief that everyone deserves the opportunity to reform their lives.

Justice of the Pies considers itself to be a social mission in a culinary art form. Justice of Pies is committed to delivering high-quality baked goods while positively impacting the lives of others; while serving as a steward for equality, fairness and inclusion.

Under Maya-Camille’s leadership, Justice of the Pies is changing their community for good – one slice at a time.

Brit Rettig, founder of GRIT Fitness

For Brit Rettig, grit is everything. As the founder and owner of GRIT Fitness, Brit is on a mission to empower women to be stronger than their circumstances. At GRIT, Brit has curated a set of original, music-driven group fitness classes that provide an intense and fun workout experience.  She’s also hand-selected an inspiring team of instructors who demonstrate the core values of passion, fun, positive energy and perseverance.

GRIT is designed around Brit’s fundamental belief that mental grit – passion and perseverance for long term goals – is the key to both fitness success and living our best lives. Brit advocates that learning to endure through physical challenges teaches us to persevere through greater, unexpected challenges in life.
