Black Girl Magic 2-Day Summit Recap
DAY 1:
We kicked off day 1 welcome session with our Founder, Marty McDonald and Celia Edwards Karam, Chief Audit Officer at Capital One. They began affirming our value as Black women – in communities, workplaces and homes. And encouraged us to dive into the two days worth of content, all centered around wellbeing.
Capital One’s Celia Edwards Karam and Dr. Jennifer R. Jackson then chatted about what it means to evolve your well-being in times of crisis. Dr. Jennifer R. Jackson made it clear that, “as a leader in these times, prioritizing the wellbeing of the team, providing support and resources for them to maintain wellness,” is key during this time.
Devi Brown then got us all together with Mindfulness and Intention Setting for the Day as our attendees practiced intention setting techniques for making sure they are always being intentional about each day.
As the day continued, our attendees heard from Monica Brown, Taylor Jay, Melissa Butler and Shontay Lundy on being a thriving business owner during the current climate of our world. Taylor Jay emphasized the importance of customer service as Melissa Butler’s goal was to always send a reminder to her “customers and women everywhere that they are enough.”
Of course we had to throw in a lunch break, so what better person to include than Tia Mowry! Tia showed our attendees how to prepare an easy kale and almond fried rice recipe and the ladies definitely loved it! Several women took this time to also cook this exact recipe as we were able to email the recipe to each attendee before the summit took place.
Codie Elaine Oliver, Courtney Brand, Alechia Reece and Teneya Ghloston brought us all exactly what we needed with their convo on The Power of Black Beauty and Content Creation. Teneya let our attendees know “the beauty industry and even hair care is really about building self-love and giving women the tools and support to feel confident within themselves,” and we couldn’t agree more! How many times do you all feel confident when your hair, nails, and everything else is done?! OK same!
You know it wouldn’t be a Boss Women Media event without a dance session, so who better to bring out and turn us all up than DJ Tazia and Lady Jade?!
From loving your body and style to our live mentor session, mid-day money mantras, and black female-owned pop-up show, we ended Day 1 with our pitch competition presented by Capital One where five finalists pitched to our judges for their chance to win $25,000, $15,000 and $10,000!

DAY 2:
Of course Day 2 of Black Girl Magic Digital Summit did not disappoint! Our Founder and CEO welcomed our 10,000+ attendees with a morning message as we headed into a yoga and meditation session with Adrianne “Ajax” Jackson.
Sheinelle Jones and Ezinne Kwubiri gave us a message on inclusivity in our communities and workplaces.
Jade Kendle from Lipstickncurls showed our attendees a quick and easy hair tutorial using her Creme of Nature products that our first 5,000 registered guests received in their Boss Box! Celebrity Keynote Speakers Elaine Welteroth and Meagan Good both gave our attendees valuable information that they learned within their industries.
Day 2 concluded with our 3 Pitch Competition winners announced by judges Marty McDonald and Shavonne Gordon, VP of Recruiting at Capital One. Congratulations to Elite Kids for winning $25,000, Shear Share with $15,000 and Snag My Wedding with $10,000! Thank you to Capital One for making this happen!
