We’re sure you’ve heard that building an email list is one of the first things you’ll want to do as a business owner with an online presence. Maybe you’ve heard the saying “the more email signups you get, the more money you’ll make” or “the money is all in the list,” – whatever you’ve heard about email lists, we’re here to tell you that all of those things may be true, but you still need to have a solid email marketing strategy to help turn those email lists into loyal customers.

How do you bring people to email signup forms and encourage them to subscribe to your email newsletter? Trust us when we say, you are not alone! Many business owners are looking for ways to use their email list to build customers. We’ve partnered with Amazon’s Black Business Accelerator to share with you how to use your email list to build upon your clientele.

How to Use Your Email List to Build Customers

  1. Have a defined email marketing strategy

Although it’s important to build an email marketing listing, it’s also just as important to know how you’re going to use that email list. Will you send a monthly newsletter with frequent company updates? Are you planning to push out promotional emails or ask for guest’s feedback? Whatever your purpose is for building that email list, you want to ensure you’re remaining transparent with your customers so they know what you’ll be using their information for.

2. Create a relatable signup form

Once you’ve decided what you’ll be using your email list for, the next thing you’ll want to do is create the signup form that you’ll be using to collect your customer’s information. Ensuring this signup form is relatable and easy to navigate will be key in aiding you to build your customer list.

3. Place your signup forms strategically on your website

After your signup form is complete, position your form on a high-traffic webpage to begin building your customers. We recommend having it pop up along your homepage within 5-10 seconds of someone being on your website, so it immediately gets their attention and prompts them to fill it out. To receive even more traffic on your signup form, have your form listed on your social channels and newsletters.
