Balance is BS! 3 Tips To Help Find Your Own Groove

make lemonade 13

Last weekend during the Side Hustlers & Entrepreneurs Brunch we learned a few things. 1. Invest in yourself. And 2, it is totally possible to have a thriving business while still working a full time job. The key? Balance, or better yet defining YOUR definition of balance. If we are being real with ourselves balance is totally BS.  There are simply going to be days where one priority outweighs something else really important in your life. True balance is about being real with yourself and finding your own personal groove. Here are 3 tips you can use to help with balancing everything coming your way.

Wake Up Earlier

Are you a member of the 5 am club yet?  According to this Huffington Post article, some studies have shown that 90% of executives wake up before 6am on weekdays, and nearly 50% of self-made millionaires wake up at least three hours before their workday actually begins.  Give yourself a few extra hours in the morning to prioritize your day before the rest of the world wakes up and things get crazy. Taking care of yourself before others is also a very important aspect of balance. Find your own little slice of “me” time at 5 am before you give all your energy to family, friends, business and of course social media. You will be amazed at how many things you can accomplish between 5 and 7 am.

Take Charge Of Your Time

What does this mean?  If you can, automate and schedule EVERYTHING.  If you are a mom, with a career and an entire business to run on the side chances are your time is very limited.  We mentioned Planoly last weekend at the brunch for Instagram scheduling & automation. Although this might seem a little over the top, try scheduling other aspects of your life as well.  Seriously. From when you are going to review the household budget to time blocking when to check email. If you stop in your tracks to respond to every email as it comes through you will never get any work done. Set a time where you do nothing but check email everyday and develop a routine. Multi-tasking a quick way to get a lot of nothing done. Tools like Boomerang for Gmail can also help you schedule email replies for a later date or time.

Have A Chat With Your Family

Ineffective communication can sometimes be our biggest downfall.  If you are struggling to balance everything and feel like every week you sink deeper into a never-ending hole it might be time to have a serious conversation with your family.  Explain everything you have on your plate right now and set expectations so your loved ones don’t feel like you have abandoned them. Figure out ways for responsibilities to be balanced throughout the home.  A little talk goes a long way and being proactive will help the situation.
