Dear Readers,
As we close out ‘The Year of the Katt,’ many of us do so with shattered illusions and whatever rose color remained on our idealistic lenses irrevocably tarnished. The priorities expressed by the voting majority revealed sobering truths about the values of the country we call home. Institutions we once believed might evolve have instead retreated, with DEI efforts vanishing as quickly as they emerged—confirming what we suspected but dared to hope might change. Yet, in the face of challenges, there is undeniable momentum—a relentless drive to protect and uplift one another.
If there’s one clear takeaway from this moment, it’s this: no one is coming to save us. And in that realization, we find empowerment—fueled by visionaries who refuse to wait for permission to change the world. Reporting from AfroTech, I was reminded that progress isn’t solely defined by the systems around us but by the strength of a community determined to create, innovate, and build.
Our December theme, The Future is Us, celebrates that indomitable spirit. From Morgan DeBaun’s pioneering leadership as Founder and CEO of Blavity Inc., to Maryland Governor Wes Moore’s bold vision for leveraging technology to drive economic growth, and Colin Kaepernick’s transformative investment in AI, this issue of The Power Suite stands as a testament to the resilience, ingenuity, and brilliance of innovators and culture creators.
Thank you for joining us on this journey. Together, we will shape a future as bold, brilliant, and resilient as us.
With gratitude,
