self-care during self quarantine

Sharing is caring!

Who could use a little self-care 101 during this self-quarantine period? OK same sis! Having a consistent self-care routine gives you some time to make sure you’re trying your best to adapt to your new normal—by first, taking care of you. As you begin to establish your self-care routine, you will notice a sense of stability and control in the way your days flow.

Sure, starting out may seem easy such as doing things like cleaning your home, reorganizing your pantry, getting rid of old clothing and shoes, or even deep-cleaning your skin with a green tea face mask, however, these things only last for a couple of days before you’re completely over it.

We’re giving you a complete list of hacks you can do to take care of yourself and maintain a solid self-care routine while you’re self-quarantining and practicing social distancing.

7 Self-Care During Self-Quarantine Hacks

1. Begin your morning by making up your bed

“If you make your bed every morning, you will have accomplished the first task of the day. It will give you a small sense of pride, and it will encourage you to do another task, and another, and another. And by the end of the day, that one task completed will have turned into many tasks completed.” Making up your bed is more than an action.

It should be a decision you implement into your daily routine. The daily act of making your bed symbolizes a sense of commitment and reliability—two things that you will need during this self-quarantine period.

2. Read a daily devotional or positive affirmation

Reading anything whether it’s a daily devotional or positive affirmation contributes to your self-care routine because it allows you early on to set the ambiance of how the rest of your day will go. Positive affirmations keeps us encouraged and gives us something to hold ourselves accountable to each day.

These times can cause us to feel a bit down, anxious or uncertain, so fueling your mind and thoughts with positive words of encouragement will help you maintain your self-care.

3. Get in some exercise

If you don’t have a home gym—it’s OK! Get creative and find ways to keep your heart pumping. There are several YouTube at-home workout videos and there’s so many equipment options you can order on Amazon to use while working out from home. From curl ups to sit ups, jumping jacks, squats and planks, now is one of the best times to get in some exercise.

4. Create a daily to-do list/schedule

Create some kind of schedule or to-do list that allows you breaks in between. Having a set schedule will allow you to stay on top of getting things done, just like you would normally do. This schedule will also be convenient because it will force you to get out of your pajamas and into “regular clothes” for a few hours—something we could all benefit from right now!

Make sure you’re crossing things off of your to-do list as you complete them because this will make you feel accomplished and ready to tackle the next task.

5. Make time for your loved ones

For those of us who are used to being around your large families every single day, this time can be a bit challenging. Make sure you’re taking out some time to call your loved ones just to simply check in on them and see how they are doing during this time.

Sure, there’s nothing like hanging out with our loved ones face-to-face, but due to our current circumstances, reaching out through FaceTime or Skype is truly a gem in times like this.

6. Keep your credit card purchases to a minimum

How tempting has it been for you to just grab your credit card and spend, spend, spend! During this time, online shopping can become a bit addictive and can give you instant gratification; however, it may not be the smartest thing to do right now.

It’s OK to indulge in a few purchases, especially if you’re supporting small local businesses; however, you should be mindful of budgeting and being frugal during the quarantine period.

7. Remain calm

This is the most important self-care hack. You have to do things that will help you remain calm during this period. Meditate, do yoga, listen to soothing and calm music soundtracks, these are just a few things that will help decrease stress and anxiety and allow you to just breathe.

During these times, it’s best to stay away from anything and anyone that drains your energy or brings worry into your circle—now is not the time for those feelings as they disrupt any healthy self-care regime.
